Fisheries Area Management and Conservation Plans: Conflicts and Opportunities

Open project database

The management and conservation plans for fisheries areas are embedded with intricate conflict scenarios and potential resolutions, creating a clear and timely demand for structuring and identifying solutions. In 2022, responding to this need, the Finnish Fishermen’s Central Union commissioned Akordi to conduct a comprehensive study. This initiative involved an examination of conflict situations outlined in the Union’s report, coupled with insights into the practical implementation of usage and management planning.

Under the guidance of Akordi, Lasse Peltonen produced an article outlining identified conflict resolution strategies, a valuable contribution published in the pages of the Finnish Fishing Magazine. Additionally, Peltonen shared his insights through a presentation during a training day for fisheries area managers, enhancing the understanding of effective conflict resolution practices within the industry.
