In spring 2022, Akordi planned and facilitated two workshops to support the city of Helsinki in reviewing its urban tree policy. The workshops were organized for key stakeholders.
The principles established in the Helsinki urban tree policy guide the planning and actions regarding urban trees. One of its aims is to ensure the vitality of the urban trees. The previous policy dates back to 2014, and they require revision. The city of Helsinki reached out to Akordi to assist in this work .
The workshops consisted of excursions to the city’s urban tree rows, and of a more discursive segment in the facilities of the Helsinki Urban Environment Division. The purpose of the workshops was to:
- increase everyone’s shared understanding of what it takes to maintain the urban tree rows,
- to discuss new solutions on how to improve this maintenance,
- to provide a venue for everyone to express their hopes and concerns, and
- to document these hopes and concerns.
