Societal acceptance of wind power in Central Finland regional land use plan 2040

Towards the end of 2022, Akordi will carry out an assessment that will support the regional land use planning process of Central Finland. The aim is to find acceptable solutions regarding wind power proposed in the draft plant, and to increase the overall acceptance of the regional land use plan.
Regional land use plan 2040 for Central Finland is currently being prepared, and wind power has a significant role in the plan. The Regional Council of Central Finland asked for Akordi’s expertise in the planning processes to increase and to ensure the societal acceptance of the plan.
Even though wind power plays a significant role in the green transition towards climate friendly, self-sufficient energy production, its societal acceptance is at times also disputed.
Towards the end of 2022, Akordi will carry out an assessment that will support the planning process. Its aim is to find acceptable solutions regarding wind power proposed in the draft plant, and to increase the overall acceptance of the regional land use plan. The assessment will include interaction with various stakeholders. This will provide a comprehensive overview on what type of conditions and reservations people have for wind power construction in the region.
The assessment will be supported by two participatory approaches. Firstly, key stakeholders will be interviewed for their views and experiences regarding important themes. The interview results will then be used in the planning and implementation of workshops that will welcome a wider range of stakeholders to plan for alternatives for solving the possible challenges and questions regarding the proposed wind power. Finally, the data gathered from the earlier steps in the assessment will be supplemented with a survey that will be used to provide additional insights regarding key themes.
The results will be compiled into a report by the end of November 2022.
