Study: The effectiveness and functionality of the Maritime Spatial Plan in promoting offshore wind power, and strengthening commitment to the Plan
Open project database
Akordi is participating in a study commissioned by the Ministry of the Environment, which examines the legal background of maritime spatial planning, and the current status of drawing up the Plans as well as their effectiveness.
Through interviews and focus group discussions, Akordi produces a summary of key pain points and development needs of the effectiveness of maritime spatial planning. The aim of the review is to understand the views of the parties responsible as well as their key stakeholders’ views. At the same time, actors evaluate their own potential for influence and the degree of commitment of their own organizations.
The results of the survey are compiled into a report, which presents legal and planning process recommendations to strengthen the effectiveness of maritime spatial planning and commitment to it. The effectiveness is examined both from a legal point of view (especially binding and connections to other maritime legislation) and from a social point of view (especially participation and acceptability).
Niko Soininen, Professor for Environmental Law & Water Law is responsible for producing the legal analysis.
