Akordi assisted the city of Helsinki in aligning conflicting interests in the city strategy. The interests in question were city growth, biodiversity, and local recreational areas.
Workshops supporting the revision of Helsinki’s urban nature management policies read more
The Helsinki Urban Environment Division set up a working group to revise the city’s urban nature management policies. In spring 2022, Akordi planned and facilitated two workshops to support this work.

Finnish FSC standard revision

The Forest Stewardship Council - FSC - is committed to strengthening the sustainable use of forests via certification. At the start of 2020, Akordi was requested as a neutral party to assist in the negotiations and work in updating the Finnish FSC standard. In this assignment, Akordi applied the guides and principles of its international partner Consensus Building Institute (Consensus Building/Conflict Resolution Toolkit for National Forest Certification Standard-Setting Process).

In autumn of 2020 the regional council of Helsinki-Uusimaa focused its strategic development on improving the framework of its stakeholder interactions. Akordi’s role was to support the steering group in charge of the planning, and to participate in the planning and implementation of participatory workshops and events.

A working group was tasked with planning the care and use of the natural resources in the Sámi homeland. Akordi assisted the working group, which included facilitating four workshops.

In 2019-2020, the Sámi Parliament, the Skolt Sámi Cultural Foundation and the Sámi Herding Cooperatives prepared to start using a new method of environmental conflict mediation. As part of this, Akordi assessed the conflict between the Sámi Herding Cooperatives and Metsähallitus.

Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) aims to improve its tracking service of wolf populations, so it organizes two stakeholder discussion events for feedback and suggestions. Akordi was in charge of the planning and facilitation of the events.

Minister of Education Sanni Grahn-Laasonen met with Sámi youth in November 2017 as part of the Future Dialogues on Finnish Democracy project celebrating the hundred years of Finnish independence. Akordi was involved in facilitating the dialogue between the youth and the Minister of Education on the current state of Sámi languages and culture.
Evaluation of the Fishing Agreement of Tenojoki River read more
The fishing agreement between Finland and Norway on the Tenojoki River entered into force in March 2017. During its preparation, the Finnish Parliament outlined that the fishing agreement and its functionality should be evaluated three years after its enforcement. Akordi, appointed by the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, performed this evaluation in 2019-2020.

EuropeSay on AI was a project that enabled citizens from many corners of Europe to participate in a dialogue regarding artificial intelligence. Akordi facilitated these dialogues in Finland in 2019.
Management Plan for the Wolf Population in Finland

During the past few years, the growth of the wolf population in Finland and the spread of wolves to new areas has highlighted the challenges of managing the population. The management is complicated by several conflicting interests. The population management plan, drafted by the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, aims to better consider these different viewpoints and to produce a solution accepted by all stakeholders.
