Lasse Peltonen is Professor of environmental governance at University of Eastern Finland. He is the Chairman of the Board of Akordi Oy.
I have been intrigued by conflicts environmental conflicts since my graduate studies in Environmental policy at University of Tampere, where I received a Master’s degree in 1998 and a Doctorate in 2003. Since then, I have worked at Aalto University Center for Urban and Regional Studies and the Finnish Environment Institute as senior researcher and research coordinator, with a focus on urban planning and land use, including topics such as sustainability, climate change adaptation, governance and conflict resolution.
Over the years, my focus on environmental conflicts has shifted towards the practice of conflict resolution. The opportunity to get acquainted with conflict resolution practices and actors in the United States during 2012-2013 inspired me to engage in practical conflict resolution through the founding of Akordi.
Since 2016, I have worked as full time professor of environmental governance at University of Eastern Finland (UEF), where my work includes research and lecturing on topics related to environmental governance, conflict resolution, and collaborative approaches to environmental management and policy. I also co-direct the Master’s Degree Program of Environmental Policy and Law at UEF.
