I have been intrigued by conflicts – especially environmental conflicts – for a long time. I defended my PhD dissertation on environmental politics at the University of Tampere in 2003. My thesis dealt with the conflict-driven formation of environmental politics in the CIty of Tampere during the period from the 1950’s to 90’s.
Since then, I have continued to work on conflicts both in research and development projects in diverse contexts, such as land use planning, climate change, neighbour relations, NIMBYism, and extractive industries.
My focus has shifted over the years from academic conflct reseach to the practice for conflict resolution. The opportunity to get acquainted with conflict resolution practices and actors in the United States during 2012-2013 inspired me to take up the challenge of practical conflict resolution work through Akordi.
