Strategic stakeholder engagement was discussed from the perspectives of wind power and reindeer herding in Pudasjärvi

Strategic stakeholder engagement in clean transition projects – wind power in reindeer husbandry areas training day focusing on this special topic was held on May 21, 2025, in Pudasjärvi.

The training day explored topics such as

  • Pudasjärvi’s innovative wind power program, which enables the municipality to assess the suitability of projects based on criteria it has set (Tiina Mäcklin & Janne Karhu, Municipality of Pudasjärvi)
  • The special characteristics of reindeer herding and the assessment of cumulative impacts (Sanna Hast & Vilma Sanaksenaho, Paliskuntain yhdistys)
  • The perspective and experiences of a project operator working in the reindeer husbandry area (Pauli Maaninka, Taaleri Energia)
  • The situation of reindeer herding cooperatives as pressure of different project iniatives increases (Tapio Vuolo, Palojärvi reindeer herding cooperative)

The training was widely attended by renewable energy project operators, reindeer hearders, consultants, and public sector representatives. The following were represented: Kollaja, Palojärvi and Pudasjärvi reindeer herding cooperatives, Reindeer Herders’ Association, Municipality of Pudasjärvi, ABO Energy Suomi Oy, AFRY Finland, Arenso Oy, Fortum Renewables, Ilmatar, Infinergies Finland Oy, Konnun maa- ja metsätila, Metsähallitus, Puhuri Oy, Sitowise, Taaleri Energia, and Vapo Terra.
