We paused to consider alternatives to naive optimism and hopelessness in Environmental Mediation Afternoon #2

On August 24, 2026, we organized our second afternoon of environmental mediation, during which discussions brought together the perspectives of different generations on environmental policy, policy options, and the role of conflict resolution in addressing environmental crises. The panel, moderated by Lasse Peltonen, included Kaisa Kosonen, an advocacy specialist at the TAH Foundation, and Akordi’s junior specialists Taika Tikkanen and Essi Arminen. They discussed for example what motivates people to act amid uncertainty and how collaboration can be built between different viewpoints.

In the second part of the event, Kristen Wright shared experiences from her work at the National Policy Consensus Center, as well as perspectives from Oregon, where collaboration-based conflict resolution models are strategically utilized to meet the needs of the state government.
