Essi Arminen
I started at Akordi in January 2026 as a junior specialist. During my first spring, I worked primarily on a project to scale up efforts to anticipate and resolve conflicts related to the green transition, but I also do a variety of supporting roles in different projects.
I hold a Master’s degree in Social Sciences with a major in Environmental Policy from the University of Eastern Finland. During my studies, I became interested in issues related to natural resource management, equity and participation in environmental policy, and collaborative governance methods. For example, in my master’s thesis, I examined the collaboration between forestry companies and environmental organizations in the restoration of drained peatlands in North Karelia. I found it particularly interesting to see how actors often perceived as opposing each other in environmental policy can successfully collaborate on natural resource management when projects serve the goals and interests of both parties.
I also delved deeper into the topic of restoration during my university internship at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in 2025, when I worked on the preparation of the national restoration plan. My responsibilities included stakeholder collaboration and public engagement in the restoration of agricultural landscapes and peatlands.
