Interim review of the natural resources plan for the Sámi homeland for 2022–2027
An interim review of the 2022–2027 natural resources plan for the Sámi homeland was held in Inari at the beginning of the week.
The working group involved in drawing up the plan and representatives of Metsähallitus met to evaluate the plan and the implementation of the measures included in it. On Monday evening and Tuesday, the participants shared their views and experiences of Metsähallitus’sactivities in the area and identified development needs that had emerged during the planning period. Jonna Kangasoja, Emma Luoma, and Taika Tikkanen from Akordi facilitated the interim review meeting.
Akordi also facilitated the work of the working group when the plan was drawn up in 2020–2021. In addition, prior to the process, we conducted a conflict assessment between the forest co-operatives in the Sámi homeland and Metsähallitus’ business operations regarding conflicts over the use of state forests and possible solutions.
We would like to thank all those involved for the rewarding days and active dialogue: Metsähallitus, the Sámi Parliament, the Skolt Village Meeting, the Association of Sámi Reindeer Herders, the reindeer herding cooperatives in the area, the Akwé: Kon working group, the Reindeer Herders’ Association, the Regional Council of Lapland, the municipality of Enontekiö, the municipality of Inari, the Inari fishing area, the Lapland district of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation, and the Inari Friends of the Earth.
