Building capacity for predicting and managing conflicts between wild animals and humans in Finland
Open project database
The Natural Resources Institute Finland commissioned Akordi to develop conflict management between humans and wild animals in Finland. The work consisted of an initial round of contacts with administrative experts, an invitation-only workshop, and training for the SusiLIFE project. The work was based on Akordi’s own experiences and analysis of the challenges associated with wildlife population management, as well as the conclusions of the Natural Resources Institute Finland’s synthesis report.
At the workshop held in September 2025, administrative experts (Finnish Wildlife Agency, Metsähallitus, Natural Resources Institute Finland), who were invited based on the initial contacting, identified needs and ways to develop the management of conflicts between wild animals and humans, considered the role of administration in this development work, and examined the dialogue between research and decision-making. The workshop also discussed the various themes of the synthesis report and developed proposals for further refinement of the themes.
Teams training for the Susi LIFE project: human-animal conflict management
In September 2025, Akordi organized a one-day remote training session for the SusiLIFE project on environmental conflict management and collaborative methods. The training focused in particular on conflicts between wild animals and humans. The training covered the basic principles of conflict management and different approaches to handling and resolving disputes. In addition, the training delved into the participants’ own current challenges and questions where conflict management is needed.
