Juha-Pekka Turunen

Juha-Pekka holds a Master’s degree in Agriculture and Forestry and has 25 years of experience in interactive design, planning and implementation of interaction and communication in challenging design and preparation processes, and operating in various conflict situations. Juha-Pekka has also completed a specialisation degree in workplace mediation. Juha-Pekka’s Master’s thesis, “Mediation procedures for environmental policy conflicts. A case study of salmon fishing” from 1995 is one of the first case studies in Finland on the management and coordination of environmental disputes (Kalantutkimuksia 98. Riista- ja kalatalouden tutkimuslaitos).

Before joining Akordi, Juha-Pekka worked as a consultant at Diskurssi Oy from 1995 to 2004 and as a public participation designer at the City of Helsinki Urban Planning Department, later the Urban Environment Division, since 2004, where he was responsible for the design and implementation of participation and communication in land use planning, transport and EIA projects. Juha-Pekka has been with Akordi since 2019, and his work has focused on processes related to natural resource and land use planning, including organising events and workshops on topics related to wolves, evaluating the Teno River fishing agreement, mapping forest disputes and natural resource planning in the Sámi Homeland, supporting MAL (land use, housing and transport) and planning processes, as well as projects and events related to waterway planning.
